This building was built in 1904 as an powerplant for electricity. It dumped it's warm water into the canal. Tropical fish and the like have lived in those canals because of the warmth comming from the powerplant.

It was converted to a heat generating plant to heat the houses around it later in the century. The dumping of warm cooling water into the canals stoped.
